Once again Instagram is shaking things up. This is nothing new but we tend to get freaked out about it. Over the last few months you might have seen a significant drop in your impressions, engagement, and/or number of new followers. Why? The almighty algorithm change! When this happens we tend to question why Instagram would do such a thing but we also tend to forget that they are a business. They are not simply around for our viewing pleasure. They must make money. They are a business. Instagram must remain one of the most relevant social media platforms AND keep their users on the app as long as possible. How do they do that? Well… they don’t. We do. Because of this, Instagram gives priority to accounts who keep their followers active and engaged longer. Again, they must make money so the longer you are on the platform the more ads they can show you.
Testing 1, 2, 3… Yes! Instagram will roll out the “no show likes” test in Canada. What does that mean? You will still be able to “like” all the posts you want but you won’t be able to see how many people have liked that post. Why would Instagram do this? “We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.” So what do we need to do to adjust our business Instagram pages? Nothing yet. It’s just a test. However, this change may very likely become global and permanent based off of user feedback so far.
